Marine Plastic Turns Into Volvo Car Interior

Volvo Cars’ latest XC60 uses recycled plastic materials, Bcomp’s natural fiber-reinforced powerRibs (functional skeleton) technology, combined with marine recycled plastic materials.

This composite material enables the use of marine recycled plastics in automotive semi-structured interior parts, while reducing weight by nearly 50% compared to standard parts.

This is also in line with Volvo’s recently announced sustainability goals, which will have at least 25% of all plastics used in Volvo’s new models from renewable sources starting in 2025.

Volvo Cars also urges automotive industry suppliers and car manufacturers to work together to develop the next generation of more environmentally friendly components, especially those that contain more renewable plastics.
