How To Enhance The Surface Finish Of The Mold

1. The quality of tool steel

Inhomogeneous hardness or differences in properties of the steel surface often cause polishing difficulties. Various inclusions and pores in the steel are not conducive to polishing.

2. Heat treatment process

Heat treatment affects polishing performance in many ways. Surface hardened steels are not conducive to polishing due to the increased carbon content of the surface. The increase in small oxide particles on the surface of the steel makes polishing difficult. Carburizing or decarburization on the surface of the steel causes a change in hardness, which causes difficulty in polishing.

3. Polishing technology and process equipment

(1) Influence of different steel grades on polishing process

For stainless steel molds, the grinding process is slightly different due to their extremely high surface finish: the surface should be ground to the finest sand number before polishing. The most important thing is to stop the polishing operation immediately after the last polishing scratch is removed.

(2). The effect of different hardness on the polishing process

The increased hardness increases the difficulty of grinding, but the finish after polishing increases. Due to the increased hardness, the polishing time required to achieve a higher finish is correspondingly increased. At the same time, the hardness is increased and the possibility of over-polishing is correspondingly reduced.
