Functions And Applications Of Commonly Used Plastics In Automobiles
In addition to the use of regional classification, the functions and applications of commonly used plastics can not be ignored. The following lists material properties and lists the locations and characteristics of commonly used plastics in today’s automobiles.
1) Polypropylene (PP)
Saturated addition polymers made from propylene monomers are rugged and durable and have exceptional resistance to many chemical solvents, bases, and acids.
Applications: car bumpers, cable insulation, gas tanks, carpet fibers.
2) Polyurethane (PUR)
Excellent physical properties including toughness, flexibility and wear resistance and temperature resistance. For example, its high carrying capacity and excellent resistance to weather, ozone, radiation, oil, gasoline and most solvents are what the car desperately needs.
Applications: Flexible foam seats, seat cushions, tires, automotive suspension bushings.
