KraussMaffei Collaborates To Optimize Extrusion Mixing Equipment

In cooperation with the Institute of Polymer Extrusion and Compounding at the University of Johannes-Kepler (IPEC) in Linz, Austria, KraussMaffei Berstorff is in several simulation environments. The hybrid system was scientifically tested.

Taking into account changes in market demand, the company is currently optimizing its single-screw extruder with test results, the main goal is to further improve the quality of the final product.

The effects of two basic geometries on the feed and mixing process were investigated by flow simulation. Based on these analyses, a scientific and rational design strategy can be formulated.

For example, factors such as velocity distribution, pressure consumption, and even temperature in the flow path have a decisive influence on the quality of the extrudate and therefore have an impact on the final product. Perfect uniformity can only be achieved by using balanced mixing elements.

“This survey clearly shows that as our theory has been put into practice for many years, we have a clear understanding of manufacturing. The use of balanced mixing elements in single-screw technology has been our main business for many years.” In Munich KraussMaffei Berstorff development engineer Otto Skrabala said, “We will continue to use research results in our development activities to give our single-screw extruders a higher product quality.”
