In-Mould Graining Process For Production Of Automotive Interior Parts

Engel demonstrated the use of In-Mould Graining in combination with a continuous rolling process for the production of automotive interior parts. This is Engel’s first demonstration of DecoJect technology in a fully automated production cell. Unlike the traditional IMD process, the IMG process does not simply transfer the pattern from the thin film to the component. It uses the laser to finely process the thin film and retain it on the component. The color, pattern, surface structure, and feel of the part are molded at one time. In order to demonstrate the application prospects of new technologies, the surface of the parts exhibited exhibits a variety of structures including complex leather particles.
